The Chilean Swallow breeds along the coastal areas of Chile, from the north all the way south to Tierra del Fuego, including southwestern Argentina, but little is known about population sizes. This species prefers open and semi-open habitats, especially around water, but is also seen in forest clearings, scrub and open forests and woodlands. Chilean Swallows are migratory in the southern part of the breeding range, but resident year-round in northern Chile.

Chilean Swallows forage predominantly very low over the ground.

Breeding commences in September in Chile, and begins in October in Tierra del Fuego. Nest sites include holes and crevices. Nests consist of a pad of grass, lined with feathers.

The clutch size in Chile is from four to six eggs. Little is known of the duration of incubation and nestling stages.

Chilean Swallows may rear two or even three broods in a season, at least in Chile.
